Rick
van der Ploeg is Professor of Economics (Public Finance and International
Macroeconomics) at the Robert Schuman Centre/Department of Economics of the
European University Institute, Florence, and among other posts Professor of
Political Economy at the University of Amsterdam In the period 1998-2002 he
was State Secretary for Culture, Heritage and Media in the Dutch cabinet under
Prime Minister Wim Kok and Chairman of Infodrome - a think-tank studying the
consequences for society of the information.
