Marleen Stikker
Marleen Stikker is co-founder and director of the Waag Society for Old and New Media. She has a background in philosophy and theatre. She is founder/publisher of the theatre and art magazine 'Alligator'. As director of the Summerfestival Amsterdam she initiated several mediaprojects (f.i. The Wetware Convention and Live Magazine).
In 1993 she initiated and co-founded De Digitale Stad (DDS), the first Digital City on the Internet. She was the 'digital mayor' till 1996. DDS currently has memberbase of 100.000 'inhabitants'.
She co-founded Net4.nl in 1998, a net-based public broadcast organisation and was involved in setting up of the European Cultural Backbone, a network of innovative cultural centers in Europe.
Until 1999 Marleen Stikker was chairman of the board of the Digital City and boardmember of TIES (Transatlantic Information Exchange Service). Currently, she is board member of Virtual Platform (advisory board on Arts, Education and New Media Policy to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science), Kunsten '92, the Foundation for Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Productions and Location One (New York).
She is a member of the ATR (Amsterdam Telematic Council). She was advisor of the working-group Culture, Communication and New Technologies of the Council of Europe and the Charter for Art and Industry and BVE-Net, consultative for Professional and Adult Education Network, Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
